Usually I’m all about twisty crime thrillers, so picking up Toni Lodge’s book again felt like such a nice change – and honestly? It was exactly what I needed.
If you’ve ever listened to her podcast, you’ll know exactly that chaotic, laugh-until-you-snort vibe she brings, and it’s all here in spades. But what really took me by surprise was how much more there is to it too. Alongside all the funny stories, she opens up so honestly about grief, struggling with her mental health, and figuring out who she really is. She even talks about those little lies we all tell ourselves and others just to get by or keep people happy – and it feels so real, no fake polish at all.
Reading it feels like catching up with your best friend: you’ll be laughing one minute, crying the next, and feeling like you’re right there with her the whole time.
Toni talking about her mum’s death made me cry. If you can, listen to the audiobook because her struggle to talk about it feels very real. Describing that sick hot feeling in your stomach is so relatable. It really hit home for me.

My website, The Rambling Tarper, is inspired by The Toni and Ryan Podcast. It has been through speaking with Toni via Patreon that she has given me the confidence to go ahead with this project and allowed me to use the Tarper name.
