Welcome to The Rambling Tarper. Unscripted. Unfiltered. 100% Tarper.
We are almost halfway through the debut season of Stuart Fails To Save The Universe. News this week that HBO Max has renewed it for a Second Season has me happy.
This week’s episode begins precisely where we left off last time. Stuart finds himself sitting in a psychiatric hospital, a setting that adds a new layer of depth to the story. During his stay, he has been drawing pictures depicting his various adventures, including a hilarious image of Kripkie as a penguin that genuinely made me laugh. It’s those small, unexpected details that really bring a smile to your face and make the experience so enjoyable. Yes, I know it’s the little things that often matter the most.
In this episode, we see Denise playing his loving wife, Jaiden and Talia. This surprises Stuart and he questions who named them, and Denise tells him, “You did” which helps him realise he does need help!!. I don’t know if the names Jaiden and Talia are an Easter Egg for anything. I haven’t been able to find anything so far.
The sheer level of cosmic incompetence on display here is just phenomenal. The pacing of the episode is brilliant because it forces you to sit there and watch a man completely ignore a sci-fi crisis. While the world outside his cell is practically on fire and the rest of the cast is panicking, Stuart is entirely unfazed, completely derailed by his own bizarre side-quests. It’s chaotic, hilarious, and exactly the kind of nonsense I am here for.
Even when breaking the fundamental laws of reality, Stuart manages a genuinely breathtaking level of creative failure. His Wallet-making is a masterclass in unintentional art. The way he presents it like it’s the Holy Grail, completely oblivious to the massive, terrifying cosmic stakes happening right outside the door, is pure comedy gold. It perfectly captures the core joke of the entire series. Ya Love To See It.
