Today we review Jenny Kane’s British cozy, “The Fish And Chip Shop Detective & A Mystery At Sea.”
Jenny Kane delivers another delightful slice of coastal cosiness with The Fish and Chip Shop Detectives and a Mystery at Sea. This charming and engaging mystery easily earns a solid 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Set against a brilliantly atmospheric seaside backdrop. This installment effortlessly balances the charm of a quirky community with a genuinely intriguing puzzle. The narrative is anchored in the daily rhythm of the beloved local chippy. Grounding our amateur sleuths in a wonderfully relatable, salt-tinged reality. Kane demonstrates a distinct talent for crafting a welcoming world that invites you to pull up a chair. Order a fresh portion of cod and chips, and eavesdrop on neighbourhood gossip before diving headfirst into the investigation.

The central maritime mystery is cleverly plotted. With just the right amount of well-disguised breadcrumbs to keep you guessing without giving the game away too early. The pacing is snappy, and the banter between Maggie and Ryan remains a massive highlight. This provides plenty of light-hearted moments to offset the tension of the sleuthing. The only reason it falls a fraction short of a flawless five stars is a slightly relaxed build-up in the opening chapters as the latest nautical narrative establishes itself. However, once the plot truly gets moving, it is entirely smooth sailing.
If you are looking for a comforting, character-driven whodunit with a uniquely British seaside flair, this is an absolute must-read that will fit perfectly into your upcoming review rotation.
