Waiting times for PIP claims are unreasonably long. Frustrated by the difficulty of calculating potential entitlement, I developed a calculator to estimate the amount owed during a PIP claim. I have refined the original design to make it clearer and easier to use. If you need them, instructions are below the calculator.
Important Note: This calculator provides a gross estimate. The final amount deposited by the DWP may vary slightly depending on exact pro-rated payment days, advance payments, or third-party deductions (such as outstanding Motability lease balances).
Instructions
Step 1: Enter Your Claim Dates
- Original Claim Date / Last Payment: * New Claims: Enter the date your claim started (usually the date you first called the DWP or submitted your form).
- MR or Tribunal Wins: Enter the date of your last payment at your old rate, or the exact date your award was reduced/stopped.
- Current Date / Decision Date: Leave this set to today’s date (or change it to the date your backpay decision was finalised).
Step 2: Select Your Previous Rate
Choose what you were being paid before this successful decision:
- If this is a brand new claim and you were receiving nothing, leave these set to None / £0.00.
- If you had a partial award (e.g., Standard Daily Living) and won an upgrade, select what you were receiving at the time.
Step 3: Select Your Successful Award Rate
Choose the new rate you were awarded by the DWP, MR officer, or Tribunal Judge (e.g., Enhanced Daily Living and Enhanced Mobility).
Step 4: Click Calculate
Click the “Calculate Total Backpay” button.
- Your total estimated gross backpay will instantly appear in the green box below.
- A breakdown will show you how many weeks accrued across different tax years if your claim spans an annual rate change.
